While most holidays celebrate something that has already happened and is worth remembering, Arbor Day represents hope for the future. We will celebrate Arbor Day at Fickel Park on April 29th at 10:00 am in Berthoud. Town Forester Paul Furnas has coordinated the 5th Annual Arbor Day Poster contest to coincide with this event. Children in grades 3-5 are invited to design an 8.5" x 11" poster that reflects the importance of Arbor Day and what makes trees so special. Festivities at the Arbor Day event will include a tree planting, a proclamation read by Mayor Karspeck, and refreshments.
"This is our 40th year as a Tree City, USA, so we are especially excited to celebrate Arbor Day this year," said Chris Kirk, Town administrator, "We are fortunate to have Paul as our Forester because his expertise and passion for trees and conservation are invaluable in ensuring that our urban forest and open spaces are preserved and enjoyed for generations to come."
The winning poster from each grade will be displayed at Town Hall, with each winner receiving a sapling to plant at their home. Posters may be dropped off at the front desk at Town Hall by April 26th, 2023. Winners will be announced at the Arbor Day Celebration at Fickel Park on April 29th.
