Town of Berthoud Awarded $41,423 Colorado Water Plan Grant for Water Efficiency
Berthoud, CO - (October 3, 2024) The Town of Berthoud is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $41,423 Colorado Water Plan Grant from the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB). This grant will fund the development of the Town's updated Water Efficiency Plan, which aims to promote sustainable water use as Berthoud continues to grow.
The Water Efficiency Plan will ensure that Berthoud meets state regulations while fostering partnerships with regional entities such as Northern Water and the Little Thompson Water District to optimize water resources. The plan will also explore ways to reduce peak water demand during the summer, integrate advanced metering technologies, and support land-use planning that promotes conservation.
Ken Matthews, Director of Water Utilities, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, "This grant will allow Berthoud to develop a comprehensive approach to water efficiency that aligns with state requirements, addresses the unique needs of our rapidly growing community and takes big steps towards future-proofing our utility." Chris Kirk, Town Administrator, added, "We are grateful to the Colorado Water Conservation Board for this generous grant. Water efficiency is critical to our town's future, and this plan will help us continue building a resilient and responsible approach to water management."
The Town of Berthoud will begin work on the Water Efficiency Plan in October 2024 with workshops and public engagement opportunities designed to gather input from residents and stakeholders.
