The Building Department is responsible for the building permit and inspection process for all commercial, industrial and residential projects within the Town. It has an express goal of maintaining a safe building environment for our residents. This is accomplished through quality plan review and inspections.
Building Codes Adopted
The Town has adopted the 2012 International building code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC), the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code, and the 2017 National Electrical Code.
Building permits may be obtained from Town Hall or by downloading the Building Permit Application.

Permit fees may be paid for in person with cash, check, or credit card. To pay by credit card over the phone, contact the Building Department at 970-532-2643. Note: Credit card payments over $1,000 will be subject to a 3% surcharge.
Part of the permit fee includes town use taxes. Therefore, it is important to have your project reviewed and a permit issued prior to purchasing of materials. Showing your permit document to the supplier of your materials will avoid paying those taxes twice. For further information on Use Tax on building Permits, please see Use Tax Collected on Building Permits.
Contractors must be registered with the Town of Berthoud prior to applying for a building permit. Please see our Contractor Registration page.
