Berthoud Parks & Recreation Department Receives Awards, Grant Funding
The Berthoud Parks & Recreation Department was awarded multiple grants in 2019 to help accomplish several projects, including a Town-maintained nursery, improvements to Berthoud Reservoir and some major updates to local parks.
More information on each grant and its intended use is below.
Roberts Lake Dock Project
Berthoud was awarded an $18,000 grant from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife to repair the 30-year-old dock at Roberts Lake Park. The dock—also used as a fishing pier—will be refurbished with new materials, and benches and a concrete walkway will be added.
City Growth Award
The Town received its third consecutive Growth Award for increasing the public area tree inventory and publishing it online at cotreeview.com. In the last 36 years, Berthoud has earned this honorable designation eight different times.
Tree Coalition Grant
Berthoud was awarded a $1,000 grant to assist with the purchase of trees for the Town Nursery. As a result, local volunteers planted 50 trees at the new nursery on Arbor Day.
Tree City USA Award
In 2019, Berthoud was named a Tree City USA for the 36th consecutive year by meeting the Arbor Day Foundation’s core standards of sound urban forestry management.
2019 Northern Water District Grant
The Town was awarded a grant by the Northern Water District to make water-efficient improvements and new landscaping to the east entry of Hillsdale Park.
Pending Grants: Floating Dock at Berthoud Reservoir
In May, Berthoud Parks & Recreation staff presented a grant to Colorado Parks and Wildlife for their floating fishing dock at the Berthoud Reservoir. This project is one of several improvement projects the Town is taking on to build out the new recreation site this year.
