Berthoud Squad Members Receive High Honors from Larimer County Sheriff’s Office
On January 28, 2019, two members of the Berthoud Squad received high honors from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office. Sgt. James Anderson was presented the Distinguished Service Award and Cpl. Steve Wicker was presented the Life Saving Award. The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Annual Awards Ceremony recognizes individuals within the department for their service to the citizens of Larimer County.
“We are so fortunate as a Town to have two exemplary individuals serving us in Berthoud,” said Chris Kirk, Town Administrator. “The continued work that Sgt. Anderson has done for the Town and his leadership is unparalleled. Cpl. Wicker showed tremendous leadership in Sgt. Anderson’s temporary absence last year, and his actions to save a life show his dedication as a law enforcement officer.”
Sgt. Anderson was specifically recognized for the support and trust he has built within the Berthoud community since becoming the acting police chief in Berthoud. In 2018 the Berthoud Area Chamber of Commerce recognized Sgt. Anderson’s leadership and policing by awarding him Citizen of the Year. This award spoke highly of his devotion to the community.
Cpl. Wicker was awarded the Life Saving award for his quick actions and response that resulted in a saved life. He applied a tourniquet to a victim who was severely bleeding from an arterial wound and kept consistent pressure on the wound until a medical team arrived and transported the subject to a local hospital for emergency surgery.
Both Sgt. Anderson and Cpl. Wicker proudly serve the citizens of Berthoud.
