Backflow Preventer & Cross-Connection Control

In accordance with Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)  Primary Drinking Water Regulations, 5 CCR 1002-11, Section 11.39.  and the 2021 CO Plumbing Code for public water systems, the Town requires commercial, industrial, commercial common area, and non-single residential water service connections to be annually verified and/or tested for a backflow preventer. The Town, and with your cooperation, strives to protect our water system from backflow contamination that could diminish our water quality. Please email or call at 970-344-5816 if you have any questions about this program.

The Water Department administers the CDPHE regulations and Policy 7 by way of a Backflow Prevention & Cross-Connection Control Program (CCCP).  This program helps protect the public water system from contamination and waterborne diseases due to a backflow event and thus the water we drink. The aim is to protect the Town and its consumers from water-using facilities which could possibly harm the quality and safety of the water supply by backflow conditions through cross connections. More exactly, CCCP is intended to prevent delivered water - water that has passed beyond the distribution system and into your private plumbing system - from reentering (backflowing) the public water system and being delivered to other consumers.
