The Building Department is responsible for the building permit and inspection process for all commercial, industrial and residential projects within the Town. It has an express goal of maintaining a safe building environment for our residents. This is accomplished through quality plan review and inspections.
All construction projects, whether done by a property owner or by a licensed contractor may require building permits and review. Virtually all commercial constructions requires a permit and plan review. Many projects done by residential property owners may require a permit including:
- Deck construction or remodel
- Basement finish
- Roof replacement or repair
- Storage shed construction
Building permits may be obtained from Town Hall, by faxing to 970-532-0640, Attn: Sue Bowles, or by downloading the following file:

When approved, permit fees may be paid for in person with check or cash, or with a credit card. To pay by credit card over the phone, contact Sue Bowles at 970-344-5808 or Patti Swiger at 970-344-5810.
It is important to have your project reviewed and a permit issued prior to purchasing of materials. Part of the permit fee includes town use taxes. The Town has adopted the 2012 International building code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC), the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code, and the 2014 National Electrical Code.
